You better watch out for those "official" Malaysian imports. When I went to
Singapore at the end of 1992 for a few weeks, I hopped across to Jahor Baru
(however you spell it) and went to some shopping centre there. Almost all the
video places had loads and loads of videos that were clearly pirated. And I
don't mean that they were cruddy copies - they were very well done - including
the text on the back of the box that said that it was not for import or
distribution in Malaysia.
All the stuff you could imagine - things copied off Laserdisk, things coverted
from NTSC - everything.

In fact, it reminds me of this one building in Singapore called Sim Lin Square
that had loads of computer shops - all of them openly selling pirated software.
You could buy the original, or the OEM version, or ask to have a copy made. And
they would make the copy while you wait.
And if the software needed a manual, they would even print one for you - double
sided and bound too!

And no - I did not see any police or anything shutting them down.
Before you ask - I did not buy anything that was suspect ;-)
